Board to Review Volunteer Proceedures

Our Board Policy encourages the volunteers in our schools.

The Governing Board encourages parents/guardians and other members of the community to share their time, knowledge and abilities with students. Volunteer assistance in schools enriches the educational program, enhances supervision of students and contributes to school safety while strengthening the schools' relationships with the community.  The Board also encourages community members to serve as mentors providing support and motivation to students.

Volunteers enrich our schools and our students.  The double benefit is that volunteering enriches the volunteers as well.

Anytime the district is confronted with allegations relating to the safety and welfare of students, the allegations are taken seriously, and measures are taken to ensure the safety of the students.

We have had occasion to prohibit volunteers from working in our schools.  We have had occasion to restrict parents who become disruptive from our schools.

We have been reviewing our procedures for volunteers and will be presenting some changes to make the security measures for volunteers clearer.  One suggestion that we are making is that all volunteers receive an orientation to assure they understand the guidelines for volunteers.
